About Cobán
Cobán is the capital of Alta Verapaz and the gateway to some of Guatemala's most spectacular natural attractions. Known as the 'Imperial City', it was once a center of German coffee cultivation. Today it's the base for visiting Semuc Champey, the Biotopo del Quetzal (where Guatemala's national bird lives), and numerous coffee plantations. The climate is cool and rainy, creating lush green landscapes. The annual Rabin Ajau indigenous beauty pageant is a cultural highlight.
